Launch Of 2 New Innovative Speciality Lettuce Varieties

In an exciting development for the local speciality lettuce industry, two new green multileaf type lettuce varieties, Verdagio and Green Machine, have been launched by Starke Ayres. Both promise superior yields, vibrant colour, and vigorous growth.
Both Verdagio and Green Machine have been selected for maximum yield potential. Growers demanding a consistently high percentage of uniform plants will be well pleased with both. Productivity is maximised by the multileaf structure which results in a high proportion of usable, uniform leaves from each plant. These are suited to meet the rising demand for fresh, attractive leaves used in salad mixes.
One of the standout features of Verdagio is its’ vigour. It produces an upright plant with a crunchy texture and sweet taste. A high volume of usable leaves is produced which makes Verdagio an excellent bag filler. A further feature of Verdagio is the enhanced disease resistance, providing resilience against common lettuce ailments such as Bremia (29-41) and lettuce mosaic virus (LMV1). Maturity in summer is between 30 and 35 days and in winter between 50 and 55 days from transplanting
Green Machine is a versatile tango-type variety that can be harvested early as a baby leaf lettuce. It produces a high volume of tender, sweet tasting leaves. Maturity in summer is between 25 and 30 days and winter 30 days plus from transplanting.
Colour and leaf shape play a crucial role in the marketability of speciality lettuce and these new varieties excel in this aspect. Verdagio shows a striking deep green hue with a slightly glossy finish and 3D leaf structure, while Green Machine boasts a vibrant emerald colour that stands out in any salad mix. The aesthetic appeal of these lettuces enhances consumer appeal, making them a top choice for retailers looking to captivate health-conscious shoppers.
The introduction of Verdagio and Green Machine represents progress in offering growers newer, more robust varieties. With their superior yield potential, eye-catching colour, and vigorous growth, these varieties are set to make a significant impact in the market. Growers and consumers alike can look forward to the benefits these varieties will bring, enhancing both the quality and sustainability of lettuce production
