PFEIFFER making its mark in the Bosveld

Johan van der Linde of York Farms in the Ellisras area has planted PFEIFFER sweet peppers for the past two seasons as his main crop. The PFEIFFER was transplanted on 18 December 2020 at a plant population of 33 000 plants per hectare .

The vigorous plant with good leaf cover gives the farmer the benefit of less sun-damaged fruit. The fruit quality is excellent and predominantly bull-nosed fruit (four lobes), with a very smooth and glossy skin. The fruit shape is medium blocky, and on average 9cm long and 8cm wide. The thick fruit wall is also a big plus for Johan, and the PFEIFFER’s yield potential is important to York Farms.

Johan reported that he did not have any disease due to a good spraying programme and the PFEIFFER disease package: it is highly resistant to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV strain 0) and bacterial leaf spot (Xcv 0-3,7,8). It has intermediate resistance to tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), powdery mildew (Lt), and Phytophthora capsici (Pc).
