STAR 1105: Winter performer in Western Cape

With winter being a difficult season for most crops, STAR 1105 continues to grow in popularity among farmers who need a quick, strong-growing and high-yielding beetroot for winter.

The excellent performance of STAR 1105 was again apparent during the past winter in the Western Cape. The seed germinated very well during the winter plantings and delivered healthy plants and uniform roots for winter, spring and summer harvest. The variety is known for its smooth skin texture, uniform round shape and small leaf attachment. These attributes make it a very good variety for baby beet as well as for fresh market and processing beet.
STAR 1105 matures in approximately 85 to 115 days during the winter and can be planted at 300,000 to 500,000 plants/ha for fresh market or processing use. For baby beet, a plant population of 1 to 1,2 million plants/ha can be applied.
The strong growth, versatility, appearance, quality and speed of STAR 1105 make it a popular choice for winter plantings in the Western Cape.
