Cassandra

A determinate saladette variety combining multivirus- with fusarium resistance

• Compact growth habit
• Concentrated set and harvest period
• Early to medium maturity
• Larged blocky egg shaped fruit
• Very firm fruit with long shelf life

Type:

A determinate saladette tomato hybrid with long shelf life, suited to open-field production for the fresh and informal markets as a trellised or un trellised type.

Maturity:

Early to medium maturing variety. In Summer plantings the first fruit will mature in 80 days after transplanting. The date of harvesting may vary by as much as 10 days between early and late season plantings. This needs to be taken into consideration when planning planting schedules under different growing conditions.

Plant Characteristics:

Compact determinate growth habit with good leaf cover on a highly disease resistant plant.

Fruit Characteristics:

CASSANDRA has high quality blocky/egg shaped fruit with an average mass of 140 - 160g. Fruit quality is exceptional with a deep red colour, thick walls, good flavour and no green shoulders present.

Plant Population:

Although CASSANDRA could be grown without trellising, it is highly recommended to be trellised to 1 – 3 wires. The planting density should be chosen to give 15,000 - 21,000 plants per hectare. The row spacing should not be less than 35cm between plants. For un trellised production, a plant population of 10,000 - 15,000 plants per hectare with a row spacing of not less than 2 - 2.5m and an in-row spacing of 27 - 30 cm is recommended.

Disease Resistance:

HR: Verticillium Wilt (Va,Vd), Fusarium Wilt (Fol: 1 - 3), Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV), Tomato Yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV)(Ty-3 gene).
IR: Root-knot Nematodes (Ma, Mi,Mj), Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV). Bacterial spec (Pst)

Features & Benefits:

CASSANDRA provides the grower with a compact, determinate plant, together with its uniform fruit size and high yield capability. The variety combines multi virus with Fusarium 3 resistance, thus helping growers reduce risk.
