A DETERMINATE BLOCKY TYPE TOMATO WITH AN EXTENDED BEARING PERIOD
• Semi-determinate variety with high yield
• Fruits are attractive in shape and size
• Good disease resistance package
• Extended bearing period
• Ideal for fresh and informal markets
A semi-determinate processing tomato hybrid with an extended set suited to open-field production for the fresh and informal market as a trellised or untrellised type.
Medium maturing variety. In summer plantings the first fruit will mature in 80 - 85 days after transplanting. The date of harvesting may vary by as much as 10 days between early and late season plantings. This needs to be taken into consideration when planning planting schedules under different growing conditions.
Vigorous with exceptional leaf cover on a highly disease tolerant plant with a semi- determinate growth habit. Plants should be trellised to 3 – 5 wires. Also suitable for growing without trellising in certain areas. The plant population should range between 15,000 - 21,000 plants per hectare. The in-row spacing should not be less than 30cm between plants.
Zelia was selected as a untrellised type, but can also be grown trellised with 1-3 wires at lower populations. Plant population for the informal market can range from 15,000 - 20,000 plants per hectare. For processing markets, the population should range between 20,000 – 35,000 plants per hectare. The in-row spacing should not be less than 35cm.
Zelia is a very high quality blocky/cylindrical fruit with an average mass of 100 - 140 g. Fruit quality is exceptional with a deep red colour, thick walls, good flavour, and no green shoulders (clean shoulders). Zelia has a very high marketable yield potential; a high percentage of large first grades can be expected.
