• Vigorous and balanced plant
• Ability to keep its size to the top
• Excellent flavour and taste

Type:

An indeterminate long shelf life saladette tomato hybrid suited to greenhouse and open-field production.

Maturity:

Medium maturing variety. In Summer plantings the first fruit will mature in 80 - 85 days after transplanting. The date of harvesting may vary by as much as 10 days between early and late season plantings. This needs to be taken into consideration when planning planting schedules under different growing conditions. STAR 9081 are classed as a medium cycle variety that produces over six to eight months.

Plant Characteristics:

STAR 9081 has an open plant habit that helps with the easy of spraying and picking. Plant development is vigorous and very fast to the top of the trellising structure.

Fruit Characteristics:

STAR 9081 have a very high quality tapered blocky fruit with an average mass of 140 - 160g and exceptional fruit quality with thick walls. STAR 9081 combine long shelf life with superior taste. Fruit colour is red to deep red, no green shoulders are present. The fruit are very uniform on the truss with a high marketable yield potential; a high percentage of large first grade fruit can be expected. The variety is jointed and has a very small calyx scar compared to the fruit size.

Plant Population:

STAR 9081 was selected for open field and greenhouse production as a trellised type. Although highly recommended to be pruned, the variety could be grown un pruned. For optimal results, plants should be pruned to between 1 - 3 stems in open field production. Pruning will lead to earlier setting and better fruit uniformity. Attention should be given as not to prune too severely during summer as foliage might be reduced leading to possible sun burn damage.
Open Field: planting density should be 12,000 - 18,000 plants per hectare. The row spacing should not be less than 35cm between plants.
Under protection: the plants could either be trained to a single stem on a supporting string and then layered down, or pruned to two stems and stopped at the desired height. The planting density should be 2 - 3 plants / stems per m².

Disease Resistance:

HR: Verticillium Wilt (Va, Vd), Fusarium Wilt (Fol 2), Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV)
IR: Root-knot Nematodes (Ma, Mi,Mj)

Features and Benefits:

STAR 9081 provides the grower with large attractive fruit, open growth habit, producing uniform fruit of very high quality. The variety is highly adaptable to various climatic conditions and produces some of the most attractive fruit available in this segment.
